A conversation with Vancouver based media and digital artists Sarah Shamash and Deanne Achong. Sarah is a media artist with a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies and a focus in Latin American Cinema. Deanne’s work includes digital culture, lens-based projects, and public art. The two collaborated on a sound installation titled, Recipes for Un-Domestication exploring domestic labor, “women’s work,” and matriarchal political resistance.

A conversation with members of the Vancouver, BC based Sex Workers United Against Violence (SWUAV) about their call to action for Indigenous centered support to address the opioid crisis. According to the 2017 BC Coroners Report, 60% of people who died as a result of the opioid crisis were Indigenous Women. SWUAV is a grassroots organization supporting street based sex workers run by former sex workers.

DJ Angle. Known as, “everyone’s favorite shit disturber,” they work to dismantle systems of oppression by day and rock dance floors by night. They have performed at many queer and local events around Vancouver, including Babes On Babes, Killjoy, a QTBIPOC dance party, and Vancouver Art Attack. They are the founder and co-director of Diversity: Arts Music and Entertainment (DAME), developing workshops and immersive content for artists and organizers working on bridging activism with the arts. DJ Angle is passionate about destigmatizing substance use and volunteers with nightlife harm reduction group: KARMIK.
